Michael Beck grew up in a musical household and has played the piano from age 7. As a teenager he played in various bands and quickly discovered his passion for Jazz. After some studies at University, studying physics and mathematics he changed for studying music at Swiss Jazz School in Bern. In 1994 went to Berklee on a scholarship, where he got degrees in piano and Jazz composition. Thereafter he spent two years in New York’s vibrant jazz scene. Since his return he has had an active career as a performer in Switzerland and neighbouring countries and has played with many internationally renowned musicians like Anat Cohen, Nat Su, Bänz Oester, Antonio Sanchez or Mark Turner. Besides his activity as a Jazz pianist and teacher he has dealt intensively with contemporary classical composition and electronic music and produced many soundtracks and stage-compositions for modern dance companies. Among his recordings, his trio albums have gained particularly high acclaim. Michael also teaches piano and various other subject at Jazzcampus Basel.
